Nature is launching a Nature China portal in April to keep abreast the biomedical research news in China. Proves that China's research potential is not to be ignored. Interestingly, the editor is going to be Hong Kong based, which makes me think, scientific publishing could also be a good career candidate! Well, given they set up office there...
Another news that China is investing hundreds of millions of dollars on building cutting edge facilities for scientific research. But as the last paragraph says, the Chinese government really needs to beware not to prize machines over the people. Until they do that, and until they can set up a good system that honors the spirit of science, it won't yet be an attractive environment to do science.
