Tonight's thoughts on Hillsong United Concert

Wow, what an incredible night of worship!! No CD or DVD can replace the live atmosphere of a worship concert, there is really nothing like everyone raising up their hands and jumping and dancing to praise God, I am so glad we went downstairs to the field.

Before I forget, I want to jot down some amazing things Pastor Phil Dooley said tonight. What a call to rise up from our Christian slumber. We need more brave Christians, he said, people who rise up above their comfort or convenience zones to see people in need and to get involved in helping them. And we need to be brave to proclaim Jesus' name.

He refers to the story of Acts chapter 3, where Peter and John were as usual going to their regular service and about to enter the temple, when they see a crippled beggar in front of the gate, and they heal him in the name of Jesus.

First, Christians should see things differently. We should have the eyes to see the people in need, just as Peter and John saw the beggar in need.

Second, Christians should not only see people in need, but then should do something about it. The 'religious' thing to do for Peter and John is to enter the temple as usual to be on time for service, but the 'right' thing that they did was to rise above their inconvenience and actually do something about it. Let us learn not to "be good at church", but to "BE a good church". Wow, what an incredible point.

In fact, later in Acts chapter 4, when the rulers questioned Peter and John by what power or name did they do this to the beggar and they said Jesus, they said: "But to stop this thing from spreading any further among the people, we must warn these men to speak no longer to anyone in this name". And this is what is happening with our world. It's fine that you help out the poor and do all sorts of charity and humanitarian stuff, as long as you don't mention the name 'Jesus'. But how can we shut up if the very source of motivation for doing these things is what Jesus has done for us? We must be brave to proclaim.

"I see a generation
Rising up to take their place
With selfless faith
With selfless faith"

This is what it's all about. To be a Christian is to say:
"It's not about me".

有時廁所真的是思考的好地方,常常在裡面幾分鐘都有意想不到的收獲。:)

Faith is to go and do what you feel you should be doing, regardless of whether you feel like it or not.

Hillsong United 的 Hosanna 最近很感動我, 尤其是 bridge 的那一段, so beautiful...

"Heal my heart and make it clean
Open up my eyes to the things unseen
Show me how to love like You have loved me

Break my heart for what breaks Yours
Everything I am for your kingdom's cause
As I walk from earth into eternity"

Happy New Year

Thanks my friends for the new year party, all the games, all the food, all the little details. They all show your incredible friendship. Though I have only known all of you for a year or so, and only meet each other once in a while, you guys are really great. I like your purity of heart. I really hope I can come to know each of you more for the years to come.

------------------------------------------

I can foresee so many things happening this coming year, so many things to consider, to take care of. At this time next year, where will I be, what will I be doing? Possibly big changes.

As with birthday and Christmas, my attitude towards this new year is much different from before. Rather than feeling indifferent, I am waiting in anticipation for this coming year to unfold, and for the first time there is God in the picture. This year, I feel that I should finally have the ability to take things more seriously, to overcome my laziness, and do every little thing faithfully and with discipline. I feel I can do it, not because of myself (I have tried so many years but failed), but because I believe God will provide when I really desire them.

This year, I will learn to keep my heart open for God to do His work, to pursue purity at heart, but not to be naive with people. There's so much to learn.

--------------------------------------------

I am so happy for you two!! There's not a more beautiful thing than two people committing their lives to each other, not mentioning being able to watch the marriage proposal live! :) It was a moving scene indeed.

I am ready for my Master's

I've heard this a few months ago, but I really want to say it for the record:

"When you think you know everything
You get your Undergraduate Degree;

When you realize you know nothing
You get your Master's Degree;

And when you realize your supervisor also knows nothing
You get your PhD Degree."

Haha... I think I am really ready to get my Master's... to the point where I am already beginning to feel really inadequate... This is not good :(

-------------------------------

I remember this other saying at Oxford:

"The more I study,
The more I know.

The more I know,
The more I forget.

The more I forget,
The less I know.

So why study?"

That's the eternal paradox...

還是覺得 Google 最好

Just as I was starting my first post at Microsoft Live Spaces, there goes Google offering me to try out the new Beta Blogger... Oh my, this must be a sign of some sort.

So here it is, my blog without regrets. Google just rocks my world. I am going all the way ~
