Love is fire, love is water

Stephen, thanks for the wonderful talk today... I just loved the way you expressed it.

Love, without God, is like the remnants of a fire. People know how to give love, because they are first loved... the love of a mother, the love of a brother and friends, the love of your partner. They love, provided this love is reciprocated. Love is like a fire that spreads through a network, but it's a remnant. How many people have grown exhausted of giving, and loving without return, until one day she finally erupts, and decides to love no more, because no one reciprocates. Loving people whom we like is easy, but how many people can really love people that don't deserve our love? But God says, when we are willing, He will use us as a constant source of a fire that burns incessantly, bringing warmth to all people around us.

Love is also like water, soft and flowing. We can choose to be a lake, keeping the water to ourselves; or we can choose to be a stream, carrying the flowing water to whomever is in need. But Jesus goes even further: "Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." (John 4:14)

Do you want to be a stream, or a spring?
